To follow up on my earlier post on the MIA Black Santa Claus at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, the Black mall, I called the mall’s management and spoke with a young lady who assured and then reassured me that there was indeed a Black Santa. She even went as so far as to tell me that he was sitting on throne now in the mall’s Winter Wonderland. I said oh really, and carried myself right on over to the mall to see it for myself.
Sure enough, Black Santa, aka Langston Patterson was sitting there in his Santa suit. I was so happy to see him, I think I had a twinkle in my eye.
12 dollars later, I had my photo taken with Santa. After we took our photo, and as you can seen I did not have to sit on his lap, we talked a bit about the significance of having a Black Santa. Mr. Patterson explained to me that he’s been at the mall now for going on four years as Santa and he loves it.
I love it to.
If you’re in L.A. and you’re looking for a Black Santa for your holiday photos, Mr. Patterson is at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. most days, even Santa apparently has to take a break.
So now that I have my picture with Santa, I can kick off my photo campaign.
If you have a holiday photo with your family, friends, or by yourself, feel free to email it to me by clicking here. Be sure to include who’s in the photo, your city and state.
The goal is to present a photo montage of how Black families, friends, and people celebrate the holidays. Whether it’s Christmas, Kwanzaa, or none of the above and you’re just celebrating Winter, feel free to send in a photo. Hey, and don’t feel like you can’t participate if you’re single, it’s all good. I took my photo, didn’t I and I don't even do Christmas.

I'm glad they had one. And its cool that they have both.
It is keeping with both european tradition and it accurately represents the people the mall is serving.

hehe Jas, you look like you're 12 again sitting next to Santa. Are you sure you're over Christmas?
