A life of celibacy? Doesn’t want a man or a woman? Seems a little suspect to me.

I have been celibate for 13 years. Yes I would love to have a man. But just because someone choose to protect themselves from any disease or STD doesn't mean that they could be gay. I don't want any nasty man infecting my body. So I choose to be along. Thank God that He has substained me this long. Maybe this is what they call self control.

My previous comment was mistakenly directed towards Jasmyne but it was actually for the commentor that preceded me.

My apologies.

Jasmyne, how can you quote scripture and then leave out I Cor. 6:9-11 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20cor.%206:9-11;&version=31;

It clearly talks about homesexuality in a sinful context.

There is no legal prohibition in Scripture against Lesbian sexuality and relationships. There's just a criticism by the Apostle Paul of women who give up "natural" relations. That does not amount to a legal prohibition. So this idea of Lesbians needing to repent their "sin" is totally bogus.

Gay men's sexuality isn't sinful, either, despite all the talk to the contrary. Jesus Christ used a special term, "eunuchs from birth", to distinguish homosexual from heterosexual men and exempt them from heterosexual marriage requirements. He never said they should be celibate. Some of his disciples were eunuchs; if you doubt me, then read the Scripture. It's right there, in the 19th chapter of Matthew.

What's more, anybody who has actually read the Bible knows that Levitican law (which contains the sex bans in question) doesn't apply to Christians and never has. That's true regardless of what the Apostle Paul may have felt forced to say. Paul did not have the power to amend God's Law or apply it in ways that God did not intend. Even he recognized Jesus Christ as the ultimate authority (1 Corinthians 1:13) and scolded his acolytes for putting him on a pedestal. Christians follow the teachings of the Christ; if they follow anyone else's teachings, they have no business calling themselves Christians! There are too many people up in here misrepresenting the Gospel.

Don't believe anybody who calls themselves "ex-Gay"! God has no need to correct what he in His wisdom has created! He meant for there to be eunuchs on the Earth, and he couldn't care less what narrow-minded human beings think.

Disturbed people like Charlene Cothran are wolves in sheep's clothing, doing the Devil's work behind a pious facade. There is nothing even remotely Christian about her current behavior! Pat Robertson is a hatemonger and a false prophet, and his 700 Club is a cult. That she now feels comfortable associating herself with such an organization tells us everything we need to know about her "transformation."

You can't be gay (or straight) without God and be happy. What Charelene has done with her life is not unusual for a person that loves God. She found out that a life without God is nothing, so she felt the conviction NOT to pursue a lesbian/straight relationship. Why should a person want anything more than God when only He has everything we need or desire. No one can take God's place or offer the TRUE LOVE that God has to offer us.

amazing. she is almost a caraciture of the born again "ex-gay." i mean, come on. to describe a whole community as having a dark cloud over it, lonely, miserable, etc. is ridiculous and overblown. i know far more miserable heterosexuals than gays and lesbians (the ones i know tend to be in long term, healthy partnerships often with children). this is their m.o.--stereotyping an entire community and then we internalize it by saying "oh, i must be unhappy b/c i'm gay"; rather than going through your struggle (everyone has one, gay or straight).

if charlene is truly happy, good for you. but save the pathetic attempts to stereotype an entire community. same thing whites did to us not too long ago.

part of me wonders if she is an undercover agent and this is all an act and she'll be back reporting in Venus magazine about the fundamentalist movement. she has at least made herself famous.

Jasmyne, I agree with you this article is bullshit. But she is right about one thing the only happiness you will find is within God. But I have found happiness in God being who I am, a lesbian.

Well God bless her anyways.

Jas,

Its been my exp. through witnessing Gays who
"try" to convert to a straight lifestyle by means of faith that the only way to achieve a life worthy of God is literally a life of celibacy..Jas you nailed it, she's not vasting from men, nor is she through with women, what shes doing is trying to convince herself that if she cant be with women,
shell just take herself off the market..

they'll come a time when people will come to truly know that our god isnt this homophobic deity that will smite all those who are gay...I just wish my fellow straight people on earth didnt try to hard to make you
believe otherwise

i read your blog about charlene cothran and watched the video and then i just sat here thinking. it was people like her and several other factors that made me question myself and at times feel depressed. sometimes i feel this way today.

I don't get it. Charlene seems to be happy, no hate! It is a credit to you, Jasmyne, that you posted this. May God bless you and the many who have the opportunity to know the happiness of becoming Christian through this exposure you have provided!

Jasmyne, I agree. I have always said our worse enemy is other gay people who work for the heterosexual power structure. I will take the homophobic heterosexual person over the homophobic gay person who is filled with self hate.
