Homophobic Reggae Artist Elephant Man to Perform in Los Angeles

Yep, you read right. 

I was sitting down writing when I heard a commercial on a local radio station for an Elephant Man performance and said WTF!

It seems that Elephant Man is scheduled to perform Saturday, June 30th on the Reggae Boat Party Cruise that leaves out of Long Beach.

In case you don’t know, Elephant Man one of several reggae artists that promote homophobia and violence against gays in his music.

Now recently, reggae artists Beenie Man and Sizzla signed an agreement, The Reggae Compassionate Act, that invited all people to enjoy their music without fear of violence.  But a number of other reggae acts have not signed up for the campaign, including guess who? Elephant Man, TOK, Bounty Killa, Vybz Kartel, and Buju Banton.

Still working on details of the show.  Check back, but in the meantime check out some of Elephant Man’s lyrics below.

Oh and by the way, Long Beach is the second largest city in California that’s home to hundreds of thousands of gays…I sure would hope they would have something to say about this scheduled performance.  And even though we might not be able to get the show cancelled, we can definitely make our voices heard.

First off it's pretty bad that you change the words of what he says in his lyrics to make your point stronger. Yes, he has used words that mean queer but never specifically. In the time this was made, this was some time ago it was acceptable to call someone a fa~. But now in these last 5 years, things have changed. You are talkin a different culture. but things have changed. and that comment above was pretty racist and can't even put all artists in the same light.

Washington, DC -- A new report, cited in the Economist magazine, indicates America's black population has fallen dramatically over the past five years, despite Census bureau estimates and demographic doomsayers' prediction of growth that would overwhelm whites.

In America's three largest cities -- New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago -- black populations dropped by one tenth due to the cumulative effects of murder and disease.

Discussing "the disappearance of blacks", the Economist writes, "Roughly half of America's murder victims and about the same proportion of suspected murderers are black. In five years America's three biggest cities lost almost a tenth of their black residents ..."

One tenth of America's black population -- over 3.8 million Negroes -- lived in those three cities, and the disappearance of 380,000 of them due to AIDS, murder and other causes represents a one percent decline in America's overall black population.

The trend is similar to that in Africa, where nations such as South Africa have seen AIDS and crime cause their national population to begin falling at a rate of one half to one percent a year, and where acts of war and genocide -- Negro crime taken to an exponential level -- have destroyed a tenth or more of the population of central African nations every several years.

Dunno what your problem is with Elephant Man all those lyrics you state are old I'm sure even Sean Paul has sung some homophobic songs. It is a culture difference in Jamaica it's illegal to be a homosexual, though I.m not condoning violence toward anyone, you must understand that it is difficult to change the mindset of men who have been raised to believe that to be gay is very wrong. I have not heard Elephant Man sing any hateful anti gay lyrics lately therefore he should be left alone to perform. I don't believe he should sign something that in his heart he doesn't agree with, would you?...

As for him being ugly, well he may not be a classic beauty however he has a certain charisma that makes him fanciable to many women....

I have never heard of Elephant Man and a lot of the dancehall artists people cite , I tend to listen to older R&B Music, Punk, Nu Wave and Alternative music from the 80's wow dude is homophobic to the nth degree. Just like I don't listen to any mainstream Hip- Hop post- chronic I made the choice that I would spend my dollars and my mental health on artists (Particularly black artists) that would at least after I listened to their music I would feel better as a human being.

Jasmyne, looking at Elephant Man they probably did not want to let him sign up for the Reggae Compassionate Act. I dont know about you, but his face (especially his eyebrows), are one that only a mother can love. Cause he is damn ugly.
