all the homophobic messages here just scream idiocy. its laughable.

Good morning. The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.
I am from Japan and now study English, give true I wrote the following sentence: "Bidspots, providing advertisers with a better way to buy and sell last minute radio ads."

THX :), Fairfax.

too late

It's too late to burn filthy fag activists (bio-terrorists) like the homofacists members of ACT-UP now that they have already spread the gay plague in the blood banks :(

jamaican tru nigga

man bun dese chi chi men...god does not want u faggots to do what u do..and thats what 3/4 of the world think..stick to gods plan dont fuck it up

Thank you for posting. I devoured every word. It seems like the only means of combatting such virulent hate is if some Jamaican superstar were to denounce it. Of course, the change would not come over night, but I think acceptance would eventually become more like the US (which sounds like Nirvana compared to Jamaica.)

People are weak too. I am sure most Jamaicans, deep down, really could not care if someone is gay, but social pressures require them to act ignorantly. good luck and thanks for posting.

As a person who has same sex attractions and who happens to live in jamaica, i have to extend my gratitude for those of you fighting hard to ensure that while these artiste (artiste being too generous of a word) have the right to sing whatever they wish, irregardless of how hateful and vitriolic it is, however they are not entitled to have such calumny go unchallenged especially when it is relation to a sponsored concert. I can tell you by living in Jamaica (not by choice of course) that these artiste (and not just Beenie man and TOK) go along way in the propogation of violent homophobia in the country. It has reached a stage where its incredibly frightening; homophobia seems to have become an upheld social value in Jamaica, much like baseball and apple pie is to america. People, this isn't like your bible belt, heartland homophobia, but more resembles neo nazi type sentiments. Its popular belief that its okay to persecute someone if they are seen participating in gay activities, known to be gay or suspected of being gay. I fail to understand how a people who has gone through slavery and colonization can be soo unreasonable when it comes to the civil liberties of a particular group of people. This kill Batty Man mentality (i.e. jamaican for gay) just permeates all segments of the society, especially the lower class and even more disappointing is that this position has been sanctified and supported by the church; with the more liberal/reasonable church officials excusing this type of thinking. Jamaicans will tell you that the reson for their homophobia is because of their traditional religous upbringing (note Jamaica has more churches per square mile than anywhere else in the world)but be not fooled by this as My country has the highest Murder rate in the World, Criminal war lords and Drug dons run entire communities to no ones outrage, majority of children are born out of wedlock, people are murdered in broad day light and the list goes on and on. Plus if you were to listen to any of these dancehall artiste lyrics, even beyond the homophobic aspects, you would see that they are antything but religous. Is almost as if the only religous value that exist in my country is: God is all powerful, he hates fags and fag sympathisers and fags deserve to die. Now any well read, resonable christian would realise that this is not the teachings of the prince of peace, but in Jamaica it is allowed to be passed of that way, hence ligitimizing the hate. If you ask me the Homophobia is basically an attempt for those who lead a sinful life (by the standards of their own bible) to feel more righteous or holy by judging, condeming and persecuting a group it sees as being more sinful. I wish i could say that the homophobia would lessen any day soon but as long as: dancehall artiste continue to put out such hate to the adoration of their misguided fans, religous officials continue to excuse and sanctify such a behaviour and politicians continue to endorse it for political gain nothing will change. Sorry if i was a bit verbose, but you have to understand that i cant voice these opinions openly where i live so these forums are my only oppurtunities.

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19-24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10 - it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? [see this site for more useful information on this subject]

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

You forgot one! Thou shalt not listen to assholes with their own stupid agenda. Isn't that in your book of fairy tales?

I really am looking forward to hell. Won't have to spend time with those holier than thou types. WHEW! :D

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:
And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
(For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)
That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.
For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.
Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.

I am so glad you didn't ask me to sit down, since I got fucked really hard last night and can barely walk let alone sit down.

On a lighter note, that was nice of you to type gibberish so that no one can decipher what you intended to relay to us. Oh well, I am sure it was quite asinine anyway.

Pissy Ass Pathetic Faggot, the reason why homos never advance, regardless of Barney Frank, Will & Grace or Brokeback Mountain.

Robert Cammiso

Thank you to Jasmyne for bringing this issue to my attention. I think that, once again, the gay community has shown what it can do when it unites and works together. Now, if we could just get Log Cabin Republicans to understand this, we'd be heading to the wedding chapel.

Older Gay

Take a good close look at the picture of TOK. If that's not three twinkie boy toys then I'm not a 55 year old gay. With my experience I can spot them ten miles away.

if you are still lurking here, you deserve a response to a few of your "points":

You write,"Sorry but i see beenie man and toks lyrics as mere entertainment" What about those homophobes who see their lyrics as a rallying cry? Will you be so kind as to round them up and advise them to do the same as you?

You write, "Do not blame them, blame the people, they want too hear this." No, I would rather blame them. The people who want to hear this are ignorant and stupid. Yourself, for example. They need guidance on how to treat other people appropriately.

You write,"...failing too realize words called SARCASM,HUMOR,ENTERTAINMENT,things that are not meant too be taken seriously." How would you think black people would respond to white artists singing about hanging black folk at an MLK event?

You are being intellectually dishonest, whether you are gay or not (I would say that you aren't gay because you sound like a complete idiot. How does it feel?)

Mr. Cannelli et. al:

It has come to my attention that even though you were aware of the controversial lyrics and attitudes of tok and beanie boy, you have nevertheless invited them to perform at, of all things, your "Hearts & Voices Concert Series". These performers may have voices, but I would hardly argue that they have hearts.

I would think that your businesses would like to attract new customers. I understand that in order to raise funds for HIV/AIDS one needs to have artists who are successful. However, it is unfortunate that you tacitly encourage their hateful messages at an event where many in attendance may find their presence to be an affront. Not only that, you have insured that I (along with many others, I'm sure) will not be a new (or continued) customer of any of your businesses (LifeBEAT, BET and Vibe) as it seems that you are indifferent to the profound indignity and insult that your invitations generate. Your generosity and thoughtfulness in raising funds for this pandemic is admirable; however, your incredibly insensitive decision offsets this good will.

If you think it's funny or amusing to support and listen to artists who think it's funny and amusing to sing about killing people like you, that is certainly your business. And it is certainly TOK and Beanie Man's right to sing about whatever they wish. At the same time, it's my right to get the fuck in their faces wherever and whenever I want to to let them know what I think about their fucking music. I encourage all my gay brothers and sisters to do the same.

I'm old enough to remember when rap turned to hip hop and then got all homophobic. And I remember talking to someone about the problems I had with that and her telling me "It's part of the culture." Well, I said then and I say now "Then that culture's fucked up." Enough equivocating around here. Homohate is no more acceptable coming out of a black, straight mouth than racism is coming out of white, gay mouth...

Hi Manny-

You are like one of those capo jews firing up the furnaces in Auschwitz to help the Nazis speed their plan along. You are a self-hating, ignorant, homophobic gay man yourself. You are enjoying an open (however pathetic) life as a big reggae queenie man due to the efforts of people like those speaking up here, who have blazed a trail for GLBT rights.

We are all entitled to our opinion, but not every opinion is strongly argued or intelligent. You wrote a lot of words that amount to a diary of a moron. Go and enjoy the concert and, do us a favor, make a pass at Beanie Man or TOK. No one would think twice to see you get your teeth kicked in. Some people just invite trouble.

Another thing. Before attempting too stop homophobic insults from heterosexual.Stop it in your own community first.I attended gay pride and was utterly disgusted by the amount of homophobia that exist there with homosexuals battling each other in street fights, arguments and else. How can you stop others when your own does the same thing

OH by the way i am a fanatic of rappers with the BIGGEST HOMOSEXUAL BASHINGS LYRICS.You see you all fail too realize you anger individuals outside the GLBT community that look at you all as selfish ass people who want things too all go your way, expecting too be treated differently as anyone else.A comedian makes a joke on several types of people from FAT to skinny too white and black, but no soons he comments on gays,Here are you all trying your hardest too debunk him and criticize him ands turn people on him, failing too realize words called SARCASM,HUMOR,ENTERTAINMENT,things that are not meant too be taken seriously.I sit and laugh at homosexuals failure too realize there selfish ways and the world does not evolve around them and what they want.Stop trying too fight a losing battle.America views these homophobic lyrics as entertainment, not too be taken seriously. It is what sells. You have an obligation too protest against them.Yet you fail too realize Beenie man and tok have obligations too say all kinds of homophobic lyrics they want and there is not a thing you can or will do too stop them.Wake up.people.stop ego tripping.you make the homosexual community look horrible with your constant bitching about matters no one else seems too take so seriously. You do not encourage outsiders too side with you,you make them side against you and are seen as rather annoying and sensitive.Shut it up peoples

You people kill me with your selfish wantings without even observing or realizing that BEENIE MAN AND TOK personally may not be homophobic bashers yet there music and what they say is what sells too america ,this is what they want too hear. What kills me is how you all want an whole organization too stop supporting an artist based on what you want. And then you think you can speak for the whole GLBT community.I am sorry but as a homosexual male i am a huge fan of BEENIE MAN and TOK,unlike you all i realize that homopohobia exist within or own homosexuality community so how can we stop others from using slurs or throwing homo insults at each other that are being used by people within our own community.Sorry but i see beenie man and toks lyrics as mere entertainment.Do not blame them, blame the people, they want too hear this. The world does not evolve around you homosexuals that have issues with beenie man and what you all want.Others like me simply enjoy Beenie man and Tok's music and am fanatics of both.Sorry i sent them a letter stating too ignore all the letters of discouragement and criticizng from homosexuals because there selfish ways do not allow them too explore other possibilities.

MN Skeptic

Folks should call Hilary Rosen on this one. She's on the board of Lifebeat - and also a leader in the Human Rights Campaign. It would be nice to get people to ask HRC and GLAAD to do something about this also. Seems right up their alley.

I would also like to share my letter with you all. Feel free to copy and paste from it or use it to get ideas if you want to write to these people but aren't sure what to say.

By the way, Mr. Canelli's email was returned without delivery. I emailed Sarah Peters and I also emailed Aly Panichi (apanichi@lifebeat.org) and Ben Godwin (bgodwin@lifebeat.org) the same email. Ms. Panichi and Mr. Godwin are program directors for the Hearts and Voices event.

Dear Ms. Panichi and Mr. Godwin,

I was deeply disheartened recently to learn of the presence of Beenie
Man and TOK in your upcoming Hearts and Voices Concert next week. My
understanding is that you are fully aware of the controversy
surrounding some of these artists' lyrics, so you must be aware that
their performance at an HIV/AIDS benefit concert will be perceived as
a contemptuous front against the LGBT communities.

Personally, I understand that the artists feel there is no pro-violent
sentiment to their lyrics. I have heard that their imperative
declarations to murder gay men and lesbians through burning alive and
hanging should be properly interpreted as a call to conservative
religious morals, purification through burning and so on. While this
hardly excuses their violent and hateful proclamations, it leads me to
understand why some people might not take the violent lyrics so

However, you must understand that the controversy surrounding these
two artists spreads to your organization when you invite them to
perform in your concert. You are saying to the tens of thousands of
LGBT individuals who do not know the poor excuses behind the lyrics:
"We, LIFEbeat, want you lynched."

People will be angry and will not take the time to consider your
situation or the fact that you are reaching out to the West Indian
community. They will be appalled by the fact that the LGBT community
is being spit on by an organization whose mission is to alleviate the
pain HIV/AIDS has caused and ultimately eliminate it.

When AIDS came around as the gay disease 25 years ago, lesbians and
gays were hit with the stigma and social derision associated with it
when it first terrified the world as an unstoppable plague. Nowadays,
with better AIDS education, people understand the disease for what it
is, and the LGBT community has worked vigilantly and admirably to
advance this education. However, with the decision to allow these
performers in next week's concert, they are once again the object of
hatred and derision, and the icing on the cake is that it's all for
the an AIDS benefit show.

The performance of Beenie Man and TOK at next week's concert could
only be made tolerable to members of the LGBT community if the artists
agree not to perform any songs that promote violence toward the LGBT
community. In addition, it would be prudent of the artists to
publicly disavow, prior to the concert, the violent and bigoted
sentiments their music not only expresses but encourages.

I hope you take my suggestions into serious consideration. This is
the first time I have ever heard of LIFEbeat and the organization has
already impressed upon me an image of irresponsibility, disrespect for
the LGBT community, and offensiveness. Thank you for taking the time
to read my email.

Alonzo Salvador Cruz

I wrote a letter to the two gentlemen referenced above and I would like to share it with you all:

To Whom it may Concern:

Please, help me to understand why your organization is booking homophobic musicians for an AIDS event. An event where Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgenders and a minority Heterosexual people afflicted with HIV/AIDS will be present to receive support! Am I to understand that your organization only deals with HIV+ Heterosexuals only? If this is the case, then I guess I could understand you booking this class of filthy entertainment, however, I think those persons of the GLBT community need to know that your organization does not welcome them, so that they may take their business and health needs to a more appropriate HIV organization. As I used to work in this field, I would be more than happy to refer them to other such organizations. If your organization is trying to send the message that members of the GLBT community aren't welcome in your organization, then I think the message has been greatly received. The fact that you have an advisory board with GLBT members as members brings shame to our community! We have always been a people of a higher class, taste and dignity. If there were a membership in our community, no doubt the members of your advisory board would have had their membership revocked. It makes me sad that there are organizations out there like yours'. People like you and organizations like yours' are the reason I left the HIV Programs 3 years ago. It's hard to work for people who don't care about people, only the funding they receive. Good luck to your organization, as you are now in the GLBT media spotlight. It does get really hot under that light and attention.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

"so what can you do?"

That's easy. Bring stones.

Robert Cammiso

I am shocked and deeply dismayed to learn that LIFEBeat has booked TWO notoriously homophobic performers who openly advocate violence against gay men for its 6th Annual "Heart's and Voices Concert Series." I am an AIDS/HIV educator, advocate and service volunteer and I plan on making LIFEbeat's actions known to every member of the community I serve. As if the GLBT community has not suffered enough nor contributed to building the service infrastructure necessary to fight this worldwide disease, now we have an organization claiming to be an ally in the fight against HIV/AIDs bringing advocates of violence into the community. There is no excuse for this provocative move and it is hard to claim ignorance given the high visibility and widespread condemnation these performers have brought to bear on themselves. What next? A skin-head, neo-nazi band? A "God Hates Fags" contingent? Perhaps you can drag a gay black man on the back of a pick-up truck for your audience's enjoyment.

Calling yourself "LIFEbeat" and then booking people advocating lynching and murder is quite an interesting stand. What's in a name? This year they are truly DEATHBeat.
