Chicago Sox manager Ozzie Guillen recently came under fire for making negative comments about gays. To be exact, he called Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti a “fag.”
In his apology, he said that he should have called him something else.
What I found interesting was his comments about his gay outings.
Guillen said he has no problem with gays, and that he has gay friends, goes to WNBA games, went to a Madonna concert and plans to attend the Gay Games in Chicago.
Are WNBA games gay?
Now as someone who attends games locally here in Los Angeles, I will say that there is an abundance of lesbians in the audience, or let me be politically correct, women who I think are lesbians in the audience, but does that make the WNBA a lesbian hot spot?
I am sure there are going to be members of the WNBA (Lisa Leslie) who are not going to appreciate Guillen’s comments, especially since some of the WNBA’s players work overtime at making sure they aren’t gay profiled.
Note to Guillen: let’s not start the trend of gay profiling.

I agree, but also add the WNBA is one of the few pro sports leagues willing to acknowledge and openly market to its gay fan base. Does that make the WNBA gay? No, but it does make them unique.

The audience at WNBA games are no MORE or LESS gay than those at a NBA or NFL game. The only difference is there are more open lesbians watching. When I first went to a WNBA game five years ago, I was immediately amazed at the number of out lesbians supporting their hometown team (Cleveland in this case)without a worry in the world. Of course being gay myself, it was easy spotting 'family' than the average person. However, ALL sports have gay and lesbian participants and fans. When I was a teenager in college, I dated a prof. football player and went to a down low party where very famous athletes attended, some still playing and others retired but still in the limelight. I hope one day a player from the NFL or NBA will come out like Ms. Swoops and break the faces of the many homophobic, beer drinking, heterosexist thinking, promiscuous, so called afrocentric, number one sports fan brothers face!!!
